Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Mekele and Transfer to Danakil Depression

  1. Morning arrival in Mekele.
  2. Drive to Danakil Depression.
  3. Visit the Afar salt miners and learn about traditional salt cutting.
  4. Camp overnight in the desert.

Day 2: Erta Ale Volcano Expedition

  1. Drive to the base of Erta Ale volcano.
  2. Trek to the summit in the evening to witness the active lava lake.
  3. Overnight camping near the crater.

Day 3: Dallol Sulfur Springs and Lake Assale

  1. Visit Dallol, known for its vibrant sulfur formations and hot springs.
  2. Explore Lake Assale, a saltwater lake in the desert.
  3. Observe the salt caravans led by camels.
  4. Overnight camping.

Day 4: Return to Mekele and Departure

  1. Drive back to Mekele.
  2. Return flight to Addis Ababa.
  3. Optional farewell dinner before departure.
